A teenage driver has been fined for speeding during a drive with his grandmother just hours after being granted his learner licence.

Police allege they caught the 17-year-old driving at 83km/h in a 60km/h zone in Woori Yallock east of Melbourne on Tuesday.

The teenager said he was taking his relative for a ride after being pulled over by officers on Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road about 1.30pm.

He said he received his learner’s permit only hours earlier that day.

The boy was issued with a $363 infringement notice and lost three demerit points. 

The embarrassing traffic stop comes just months after an unlicensed learner driver was allegedly caught speeding at 200km/h with his three young children in the car.

Police allege they saw a Holden Commodore speeding on the M1 motorway at Mooney Mooney north of Sydney in April.

He allegedly reached 200km/h in a signposted 110km/h zone before slamming into a concrete barrier. 

Checks revealed the 35-year-old male driver held an expired learner permit, which was disqualified.
