An innocent homeowner was dragged from his home in his t-shirt and underpants by armed police after they targeted the wrong address while on the hunt for a knifeman.

Dramatic footage captured by a Ring video doorbell shows the moment that laser sights from officers’ guns were pointed at Eddie Croasdell, 56, as he was put in handcuffs and dragged outside his home in St Albans, Hertfordshire.

By the time that police realised Mr Croasdell was not the person they were looking for, the real culprit had escaped, the Sun reported.

Mr Croasdell has now complained to the police watchdog and is said to be considering legal action.

He told The Sun: ‘I was woken up to bashing at my door on Sunday morning at 8.30am to see what looked like a platoon of US Marines standing outside.

‘I was completely, completely terrified. I opened up and was painted with laser targets and someone shouting, “Put your hands over your head”.

‘I thought, “S*** they must think I’m a terrorist. They are going to shoot me”.’

Mr Croasdell said he then tried to think if there was anything that he had done wrong which might explain the actions of the police.

The homeowner’s 15-year-old son Jack was also questioned by officers, whilst Mr Croasdell said he feared they would shoot his dog after the officers saw the animal and began shouting.

A spokesman for Hertfordshire Constabulary said that ‘time was of the essence’ in the raid, because of the need to protect ‘public safety’.

They said officers had attended after receiving reports that someone in the flats was behind held at knifepoint.
