Iranian government allegedly develops computer game where players try to

The Iranian military has been developing a video game called ‘Save the Freedom’ in , which the objective is saving George Floyd’s life, a journalist has claimed.

When Floyd was murdered by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin last May, global protests against police brutality erupted.

His death also inspired Iran’s Basij paramilitary forces to begin developing a mobile game, according to Beirut-based journalist Seamus Malekafzali.

‘Iran’s Basij has unveiled a new mobile video game about saving George Floyd from being murdered by police,’ tweeted Malekafzali on Wednesday about the supposed software.

Players, he said, will have to surmount 30 levels of increasing difficulty to beat the game, facing off against different types of enemies and overcoming varying weather conditions.

Malekafzali, who studied journalism at Emerson College before moving on to graduate studies at the American University of Beirut, is currently a writer for the Watchdogs Gazette, according to his website.

When asked for comment, Malekafzali declined.

Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naghdi prompted the Basij to develop the game in September of 2020 for a competition for the ‘Nationwide Event for the production of Basij Digital Content,’ according to Iranian English-language publican Kayhan Life.

‘The first challenge for this competition is to design a game for mobile phones and computers titled “Rescuing George Floyd,”‘ General Naghdi said told members of the Basij when unveiling the competition.

‘Rescuing this black citizen from American police should be the aim of this computer game.’

‘Nowadays, the only place left for America to turn its defeats into victories is the internet,’ he said. ‘MOSSAD, the CIA and intelligence services are behind these psychological games, not people.’

‘People inside the U.S. shout ‘death to America’ and burn the American flag,’ Naghdi added. ‘The U.S. domestic and foreign policies have failed. The public is increasingly becoming polarized in that country.’

An animation competition and a competition for a prayer app were also included in the event, according to the publication.

It is unclear whether or not the video game has actually been developed.

Social media users mocked and bashed the insensitive game concept.
