‘When I first scratched it, I thought it didn’t win anything, so I just tossed it in the bin.’

But her eagle-eyed boyfriend spotted the ticket in the trash and realised she had actually taken out the $260,000 top prize.

‘I didn’t believe a word he said. I assumed he was just pranking me, or it was some kind of novelty ticket,’ she said.

Initially thinking her boyfriend was pranking her, the woman had to read the instructions on the back of the ticket three times over before the win sunk in.

The winning ticket was purchased from Aqueduct News and Lotto and will now guarantee the woman $1,000 a week for the next five years.

Still in shock from the win, the St Helena woman said it was a fantastic surprise right before Christmas.

‘I am not sure what I will do with it. I am still coming to terms with the news,’ she laughed.

‘I think we will definitely use it to buy a house, though!’
