Powerball has surged to a monster $80 million jackpot after no one snagged the division one prize for the fifth time in a row.
The prize is the equal-biggest jackpot on offer in the country this year, with one in four Australian adults expected to have an entry in next Thursday’s lotto.
The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1332 on Thursday night were 21, 17, 16, 3, 22, 34 and 9, while the all-important Powerball number was 9.

About 500 tickets a minute were expected to be sold in the hour leading up to the draw for the colossal prize.
Although no player walked away with the $60 million this week, $33.4 million in prizes were won by Australians in divisions two to nine.
This included four division two winners who each scored $231, 561.65.
An $80 million jackpot has occurred twice this year, in April and August, with the huge windfall being taken home both times.
‘In April this year, two NSW players shared the $80 million prize, walking away with $40 million each,’ The Lott’s Ally Ramsamy said.

‘And then in August, a North Melbourne dad scooped up $80 million when he held the only division one winning entry in that draw.
‘He became Victoria’s biggest lottery winner and the country’s third-biggest lottery winner.’
If only one person holds the winning ticket for next week’s monster prize, they will share the title with the North Melbourne father as Australia’s third-biggest lotto winner.
The Lott’s Matt Hart said the spring season was a winning season for many Powerball players, as opposed to other times of the year.
Within the past five years spring has seen 25 Powerball division one winners with the next-highest season being winter which saw 23 people score the jackpot.

‘The spring of 2021 has been no exception as we’ve already had three Powerball division one winners scoring more than $90.4 million. Who knows, we might add to this tally this week,’ he said.
‘Helping to bolster spring’s reputation is the fact we’ve seen the Powerball jackpot climb to some lofty heights during previous Septembers, Octobers and Novembers.
‘For example, Australia’s biggest ever lottery jackpot of $150 million took place in September 2019.’
In the year to June 30, 17 Powerball division one winners across Australia pocketed more than $519.8 million in prize money.
Of the 17 Powerball division one winning entries, 10 landed in NSW, five in Queensland, and two in Victoria.
