Photos have emerged of the stormwater drain where a little girl, three, was found dead shortly after she and her brother were reported missing from her home. 

Grieving members of a the community in Kelso, in Townsville’s south-west, laid tributes at the site on Monday morning – leaving flowers and stuffed toys for the child. 

The girl and her brother, two, vanished from their Queensland home about 6.40pm on Saturday, police said. 

Officers scoured the area – finding the boy wandering the streets a short time later before tragically discovering the girl in the stormwater drain just after 8.20pm. 

The kids’ father, 27, has been charged with manslaughter and driving under the influence of a drug.

Flowers, plush toys, notes and Christmas decorations were laid along the pavement and attached to a metal fence overlooking the canal this week. 

The drain is just 50m away from the little girl’s home.  

A young girl who visited the site on Monday to leave flowers told Daily Mail Australia the community was extremely saddened by the tragedy.  

Police cars remained parked outside the child’s home on Monday, with crime scene tape has been strung around the front yard of the suburban home.

The family’s property sits in a newly-developed residential area, neighbouring on large swathes of bushland. 

Real estate records show the three-bedroom property, in the city’s southwestern outskirts, has been rented out since June 2019. 

The man faced Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday where he was refused bail.

He will return to court in February.
