NYPD cop is shot in the arm during gunfight with suspect out FREED ahead of sentencing for prior firearms charge
- The 32-year-old officer, Dennis Vargas, was treated and released from Lincoln Center Hospital in Manhattan early Wednesday
- The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Rameek Smith, is now in custody
- The shootout unfolded late Tuesday night, cops said, after Vargas and his partner approached the suspect during their beat in the Bronx at 10:45 pm
